A day long workshop was held at DTE, Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU) on last Monday, 12 June 2017 in Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering Seminar room. It was the workshop of Self-assessment committee of Department of Textile Engineering (DTE), MBSTU under university’s Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC). It was the first workshop of IQAC for this department with the heading “Team Building for Self-Assessment Activities”.

The Dean of the engineering faculty attended as a chief guest in this day long workshop. The chairman of the Textile Engineering Department Dr. Md. Iqbal Mahmud attended their as a guest of honor and he inaugurated the program with his welcome speech. The Proctor and director of IQAC, MBSTU Dr. Md. Sirajul Islam and the additional director of IQAC, MBSTU Dr. A. K. M. Mohiuddin attended as a special guest in the workshop. Both of them thanked Textile Engineering Department to organize this workshop as a first departmental initiative among others. They also added that Textile Engineering Department is a well-known department in MBSTU. The department always ensures better quality education.

The workshop was chaired by Assistant Professor of Textile Engineering Department and Chairman of IQAC Self Assessment Committee MD. Abdullah Al Mamun. The Key note Speaker of the workshop was Farhin Hasan, Additional Director of IQAC, American International University of Bangladesh. She told about how to ensure quality of a department and the university.

The Assistant Professor of DTE, MBSTU Md. Rokonuzzaman, Mahbubur Rahman, Prity Sarkar was also attended in the workshop. Apart from them, 7 ex-students and 6 current students, lecturers of Textile Engineering department, office staffs of both TE department and other departments were also present at the workshop.

There was a detailed discussion on various aspects including quality improvement of higher education in the workshop.

Dr. Md. Iqbal Mahmud has been appointed as the new chairman of the Department of Textile Engineering (DTE) of Mawlana Bhashani Science & Technology University (MBSTU). He is the 6^th chairman of the department.

Taking the charge from one of the most successful chairman of the department Md. Abdullah Al Mamun, Dr. Mahmud started his journey as a chairman on the 1^st April 2017 and eventually has completed 2 months tenure of his work.

Dr. Iqbal completed his B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering at Islamic University of Technology (IUT), M.Sc in Mechanical Engineering at Kongju National University of South Korea, MBA at University of Dhaka and PhD in Mechanical Engineering at Kongju National University of South Korea.

He is now the general secretary of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) Tangail sub-center. Dr. Mahmud started his carrier as a lecturer of the department of Textile Engineering at MBSTU in the year 2006. Now he is an Associate Professor of this department.

Textile Engineering Alumni Association of Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU) organized their 1^st Annual Picnic at Tarubithi Eco Resort, Gazipur on 26 March, 2019. Former and current students from different batches (batch 1-14) of the textile engineering department, MBSTU participated in the daylong picnic program. Bangladesh Textile Today was the media partner of this program.

The program started at 10 am with a gathering of all participants, then sports activities like football, cricket and swimming pool fest were celebrated.

After lunch, there was a career discussion where former students from different professional backgrounds shared their job experiences and provided suggestions for juniors. Cultural show and raffle draw were also held. The program ended at 6 pm.

From the Executive Committee of TEAA, MBSTU, President Engr. Subrata Chandra Das, General Secretary Engr. Amit Sarker, Vice-President Engr. Md. Shafayet Arefin, Organizing Secretary Engr. Md. Sharifur Rahman Rakesh, Assistant General Secretary Engr.  Md. Mohsin Alam and other members attended at the picnic.
